Founded in 1940, Beijing Institute of Technology has been one of the key universities supported by the state since the founding of New China. Since our inception 82 years ago, we have trained more than 300,000 graduates, who later served as Party and government officials at provincial and ministry levels (more than 120 graduates), academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering (more than 60 graduates) as well as a large number of leaders and excellent contributors to various industries. Recent years have seen rapid high-quality development of this university, with remarkable results in talent training, discipline development, faculty, scientific research, international cooperation, etc. In pursuit of fostering character and civic virtue, we have cultivated numerous top-notch talents, and continuously improved our enrollment quality, ranking 10th among universities under China’s “Double-First Class” initiative in terms of science and engineering admission scores. By virtue of unremitting efforts to enhance connotation and quality, the discipline development level has been steadily lifted, evidenced by the fact that 10 disciplines and 4 disciplines rank in the top 1% and in the top thousandth of ESI, respectively. Following the philosophy of talent-driven development, we have been raising the quality and quantity of teaching staff and pooled 39 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, with a proportion of high-level talents topping 18%. Upholding the innovation-driven concept, we have made meritorious contributions to major scientific and technological innovations, and produced a number of high-level scientific and technological achievements, while anchoring key strategic needs of the state and the forefront of science and technology in the world. In the past three years, we have constantly won the first prizes. By virtue of cooperation and integration, great progress has been made in international openness in school running. We have signed school-level cooperation agreements with 362 colleges and universities from 77 countries and regions in six continents, and launched student exchange programs with more than 100 partner institutions. ************ (some figures linked to talent training) The university has 2,600 overseas students, of which those from the Belt and Road countries account for nearly 80 percent of the total. The university took the lead in establishing the China-Russia-Belarus University Alliance and the Sino-Spanish University Alliance. It has been selected into the list of the Belt and Road national talent training base program of Beijing. 244 teachers and students from 18 Belt and Road countries benefited from the Belt and Road national science and technology innovation training camp services successively held for college students in 2018 and 2019. Boasting of distinctive services, we seek to build a high-end think tank for global governance. In July 2021, the School of Global Governance was established to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with global competence in light of the characteristics of Beijing Institute of Technology, with a view contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

As the first university of science and engineering founded by the Communist Party of China, Beijing Institute of Technology, originating from Yan 'an, has always taken meeting major strategic needs of the state as its core mission. While pursuing international school running and actively developing global partners, we have attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with universities in BRICS countries, and continued to deepen cooperation with universities in Russia through Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools. We are the first university in China that has introduced high-quality educational resources from Russia. The establishment of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University in collaboration with Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2016 fostered the training of high-quality innovative talents for China-Russia strategic cooperation and regional economic and social development. The university has started to enroll its first batch of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as doctoral candidates since 2017 and 2018, respectively. In 2020, it was approved as a postdoctoral innovation practice base. We currently have academic institutions including Department of Computational Mathematics and Control, Department of Materials Science, Department of Biology, Department of Geography, Department of Engineering, Department of Economics, Department of Language as well as Centers for Russian, Chinese and Arts. In the past five years, school enrollment has been expanding year by year. Currently, there are 1,312 students in the university, including 1,145 undergraduates, 135 master's degree students and 32 doctoral students, of which 1,191 are Chinese and 121 are international. In 2021, we worked with Bauman Moscow State Technical University to establish the BIT-BMSTU Joint School, which is a second-level school running based on Chinese-foreign cooperation approved by the Ministry of Education of China. The BIT-BMSTU Joint School has carried out undergraduate and postgraduate education based on an integration of traditional advantages of engineering majors of two universities. In 2021, a total of 38 students majoring in automation and aerospace engineering were enrolled for the first time, who studied in Beijing Institute of Technology. In 2022, 64 undergraduate students were enrolled to four majors of this cooperatively-run school: aerospace engineering, energy and power engineering, optoelectronic information science and engineering and automation. Its enrollment is included in the national unified enrollment plan. Students who are enrolled will be registered as students of Beijing Institute of Technology and Bauman Moscow State Technical University at the same time, and be granted the school roll of both universities. They will spend the first two years at Beijing Institute of Technology and the second two years at Bauman Moscow State Technical University by participating in an exchange program. A double bachelor's degree from these two universities will be granted.
